1979 Ford Capri Mk3 3.0S

Chris's Mk3 Capri is in fantastic condition for its age, being largely original with the exception of some minor paintwork being done over the years.
Its now beginning to show some signs of its age so Chris has decided it was time to give the car a light restoration before the rust bug takes
hold as you all know the S capris are becoming one of the most sought after models of the capri Marque, especially seeing as how this car is in a most desirable black and is a non-sunroof model.
The rear wheel arches on the car were in fantastic condition and only needed minor repairs which consisted of cutting out the rusted sections of
both rear quarter panels to the rear areas of the wheel arches. Some minor corrosion needed attention on the inner wheel arch as can be seen in
the picture. The rusted area was removed and a new fabricated section was welded into place. Once this had been finshed, the repair to the wheel
arch of the quarter panel was completed using a repair section.

The repairs to the wheel arch on the other side of the car were similiar so the same process again was carried out. The off side turret area was in need of attention so the wing was removed to allow for full access. The top plate was removed to allow for repairs to the inner wing turret area. Once completed, a reclaimed top plate repair section was used to replace the original corroded part. Some minor attention was required to the wing rail in the general turret area.

After the turret area had been repaired, the wing could be refitted. A rust free reclaimed panel was used as the original was badly corroded due to damage. The bonnet was replaced using a reclaimed part and minor damage to the body in general was taken care of. To reduce the dust to the interior of the car, the glass is left in place until the last possible moment. This could now be removed and preparation for refinishing to begin. once ready the car was treated to a new coat of 2-pack Ford Black paint.

Chris had always requested that he wished to drive the car home after the restoration was complete. It had been over a year since the car had been on the road due to failing its MOT on the corroded off side turret. The car had a complete new front braking system fitted, along with some minor mechanical work to ensure it passed first time. A set of 7 x 13 superlite wheels with new tyres were also fitted. The car sailed through its MOT and Chris was able to drive it home for the first time in over a year.
Chris's comments: Love it! Well Chuffed! Thank you!
