Capri Mk3 280 Turbo Technics

This 280TT is one of the finest examples of this model of Capri out on the scene. Being that this car is very rarely used, it is in our workshops for a service and MOT. As this car is in such fantastic original condition, the owner has requested that the car be wax oiled.

All chassis and box sections to the underside of the vehicle were treated to a healthy amount of waxoil. The only part unable to reach with the probe was the section of chassis rail above the rear axle. Due to no holes in this section, a hole was drilled in the chassis leg to allow the probe to get into this area. A rubber bung was sealed into the hole afterwards.

The tailgate trim, rear seats, door cards, quarter trims, sill and kick panel trims were all removed to allow wax-oiling of the car as opposed to the old way of drilling holes. As can be seen by the picture of the rear quarter panel, Ford applied little or no corrosion protection to these cars in the factory. To build 1038 cars in two weeks I guess something had to give somewhere! The sills, A-posts and doors were all treated with waxoil as was the bonnet and tailgate, and of course not forgetting that all important windscreen scuttle panel. Access to this is done via the area to the bonnet hinge's.

Once completed, the car was serviced and taken for an MOT, which of course, it passed with flying colours.

Note: Although this Capri was only commissioned to Restore-A-Ford for getting the car back on the road, we feel that it was appropriate to acknowledge it originality and deserved win at the CCI show.
