1984 Ford Capri MK3 Tickford Turbo

Aston Martin Tickford only produced 100 of these unique cars. We at Restore-A-Ford are very proud to be entrusted with this valueable vehicle.
This car had unfortunately suffered a fire in the boot area, which caused the roof panel to distort under the intense heat, therefore a new roof skin was required. Being that this is such a rare car and was in first class show condition prior to the fire, it deserves no less than Restore-A-Ford to return it to its former glory. New roof skins are near impossible to find so a reclaimed item had to be used.
Once a suitable donor roof was sourced (Kindly supplied by Retroford International) the damaged skin was removed from the vehicle. As suspected the fire had caused all the protective coating to the inner frame work to blister resulting in the whole area needing striping back to bare metal so it could be treated using zinc rich primer. The middle picture below provides some idea of the extent of damage caused by the fire.

In the first picture below, the vehicle can be seen all prepared and awaiting the new roof skin. The second picture shows the new roof skin ready for the unpicking and cleaning process to begin. This requires much care and consequently is a time consuming process. The last picture shows the roof panel after all the framework has been removed leaving just the outer skin. All the flanges are treated with a zinc rich weld through primer in preperation for fitting to the vehicle.

The first picture below shows the reclaimed roof skin welded into position. The roof skin has been stripped back to bare metal in preparation for priming. Corrosion-wise the vehicle was in very good condition with only minor repairs needed to the offside lower rear quarter panel. A section was removed to reveal some corrosion to the inner panel which in turn was also cut-out in preperation for a new fabricated panel to be welded into place.

The fabricated inner section could then be welded into place and finished in readiness for a replacement section to repair the outer quarter panel itself. Being that this is a Tickford Capri and this area is not seen due to the bodykit, it is still vitally important that any rust is removed from the vehicle in the correct manner. Due to the fire being in the near side rear area of the car, the heat had caused some damage to the near side rear quarter panel. The top section of the panel was stripped back to metal to ensure any trace of heat damage had been removed. Some minor reshaping was required to this area of the car.

As mentioned previously the car was in good condition prior to the fire and therefore only other minimal repairs were required. Once completed, the car was primed and prepared for refinishing in Ford Diamond White. The boot floor and inner rear quarter framework was also refinished again due to the fire damage. Once the paintwork was completed the bodykit was refitted.

As can be seen in the pictures, the lights, glass and general trim was refitted to the vehicle in readiness for collection. All door handles and window trims including the door frames were refinished in satin black to add to the 'as new' appearance of the car.

Jason's comments: Looks fantastic - just how it should be.
Update:
Jason was very happy with the work carried out on his White Tickford and committed his second Tickford to Restore-A-Ford as well.
His Black Tickford was in tip-top condition with the exception of the rear tailgate which had suffered from some rust.
After sourcing a new tailgate, he sent it to Restore-A-Ford to be preped, painted and fitted to the vehicle, of which pictures can be seen below
