1986 Ford Capri Mk3 2.0 Laser

This Ford Capri Mk3 Laser is a project of our own. Finding this little gem which doesn't require much work was a great little find.

When we got the car it was actually missing its nearside wing. Fortunately the car had been laid up for over 10 years in a garage so the rust hadn't got hold... A genuine Ford wing was sourced.

Some work needed to the floor plans in the usual areas (with assistance from the junior)..

The bonnet was rotten beyond repair so another one was sourced which needed some attention to the front lip.

Once all the reminents of the old wing had been removed, the new one could be fitted straight on as the rail was in perfect condition.

The repairs to the floor were completed and all repair work completed to front wings and bonnet, and a coat of etch primer on all bare metal areas.

Small piece of wheelarch and the inner needed replacing, nothing major, along with small section of sill, lower rear corner and section of rear valance. A few repairs dotted about and now prep'ed ready for primer, just the roof left to prep. The repairs to the floor were completed and all repair work completed to front wings and bonnet, and a coat of etch primer on all bare metal areas.

After the metalwork was completed, it was rolled into the booth, where it was masked-up, the bare metal areas etch-primed and 3 coats of high-build primer applied and then baked.

The underside was all cleaned back and coated with an underbody guard. The axle was painted, shocks done, bolts replated and 2.8 springs fitted.
The engine was removed along with all engine compartment components in readiness for the next stage.
The pictures of the strut tops and inner wing areas are to show that this was a really solid car to start with which always helps!!
